SUMMER BOOK CLUB 2022
Ten members of Alpha Delta chapter met on July 14 for their annual Book Club gathering. Led by K. Diehl, the group discussed the many characters and themes of the selected novel The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michelle Richardson. Videos of the author and a professor speaking about the book gave the group added insights.
Those in attendance at the book club tried to bring the book’s meaning into present times, discussing how we might reach out to those in our own communities who are dealing with adversity, especially the hardships of living in poverty. We were reminded of the people of Richardson’s book in recent news reports of devastating floods in eastern Kentucky, still one of our nation’s poorest regions. The book club event was held in the library of Woodmont United Methodist Church in Reidsville. Members of the Leadership Development Committee provided refreshments and set the table with a Kentucky theme. Monetary donations were also collected to present to the church as an honorarium.
